I love focusing my energy on the greats and the positives, but sometimes, you just have to admit “wow this was a total fail!”

Ideally, we would love all of our products (all of the time). However, it doesn’t work out like that. So here are a few disappointing products that I’ve recently purchased.

  • Tarte Parkave Princess Contour Kit: honestly, I’m not even sure why I bought this. For starters, the bronzer is much too warm to be a contour. Luckily, with a light hand, I can make it work without looking orange. However, the highlighter doesn’t show up on my skin and the blush isn’t my ideal shade. Tarte came out with a Parkave Princess 2 and it looks much more fitting.
  • L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte: Okay, so I know a few of you will be like “how didn’t she like this?!” I know it’s a lot of people’s holy grail foundations – but it transfers SO MUCH on me. Even when set with a powder, it’ll transfer all day, on everything.

  • Maybelline Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect: this also transfers a lot on me! The first edition (in the pink bottle) was perfect! I love the formula on that one. However, this addition just didn’t do it for me. I have raccoon eyes within an hour. It’s unfortunate, because I love the brush and the way it makes my lashes look.

  • NYX HD Concealer: this product is bizarre for me! It leaves me looking dry and cakey and immediately settles into fine lines, and just gets worse throughout the day.

  • Sephora Cream Lip Stain (10): This colour is gorgeous and I anticipated it’s arrival in the mail. A lot of beauty bloggers loved this product so I thought it would be a hit. However, it bunches up on me and smears onto my teeth.

  • Pixi Petra Bronzer (summertime): I thought this wasn’t bad for a little fake-summertime glow, however, everytime I wear it, my boyfriend points out that it looks cakey and grabby and uneven. A little reminder to not always let the mirror fool you.

What are some of your beauty fails – or favourites?!

I was hoping to bring you guys an exciting beauty related post today. Unfortunately, I am in bed sick after a whirlwind of a month. Instead, I wanted to share some exciting news with you guys!

I was published in Thought Catalog! Though Catalog is an incredible website which publishes works from thousands of writers. I follow them on nearly every social media platform.

I’ll link my article A Letter To My 16-Year-Old Self here. I would love if you checked it out.

I’ll be back to my normal posting once I’m feeling a little better, sorry for the delay! I miss you all and I hope you’re having a wonderful week,

I was addicted to gel nails for about three years, always getting muted colours or french tips. I finally made the decision to take them off.

I thought it would be a part time thing, but I’ve loved having natural nails! I am a little bit more adventurous with them now that I don’t have to commit to a colour for four weeks straight.

Here are some of my favourite Spring/Summer nails:

  • Essie Mint Candy Apple (a beautiful mint-blue color)
  • Essie Sequin Stash (natural looking sheen with a little shimmer)
  • Essie Meet Me at Sunset (orange-red)
  • Essie Sunset Sneaks (hot pink)
  • Essie Cabana Boy (whitish-grey with shimmer)
  • Essie Chillato (extremely muted lime-yellow)
  • Essie Pret-a-Surfer (a purpler-based blue)
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Gel 230 All Chalked Up (lavender)
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Gel 380 Malibu Peach (coral)
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Gel 360 Tidal Wave (electric blue)
  • Sally Hansen Hard as Nails 240 Babe Blue (baby blue)

What are some of your favourite Spring and Summer nail colours?

Hi everyone! I’m a little late on the bandwagon, but I wanted to share my first impression of the Too Faced Born This Way foundation.

I purchased this at Sephora for $48CAN in the shade Ivory.

I started with the Becca Backlight Filter Primer as my base. I’ve heard this foundation is a natural finish (confirmed: it is), and I like a little glow. I only set the areas of my face that I applied concealer.

  • Looks natural (not cakey at all)
  • Is not oily or drying
  • Long wearing (six hours and still going strong!
  • Bronzer and blush applied well on top of it
  • Didn’t cling to dry patches

  • Majority of the shades are very yellow-based, which may leave out some of our cooler-toned girls! I’m neutral and made the colour selection work
  • Rubbed off around my nose

All around, I was happy with this foundation and will continue to use it. However, it’s certainly not my holy grail due to the lack of glow!

What are your favourite foundations? I’m always on the look for a new one.

Recently, Marissa Lace made a video (here) about toxic relationships. While I completely agree with everything she said, there is something I want to add.

Recently, I let go of an eleven year friendship with somebody I thought was going to eventually be my bridesmaid. We both held onto the relationship for a lot longer than was right for either of us.

My relationship with my long time friend wasn’t just toxic because she didn’t have my best interest at heart, but because I didn’t have her best interest at heart either. I held a lot of resentment toward her but never took the time to voice what had hurt me. The relationship was toxic for both of us, so I don’t fault her for it. Our chemistry just simply wasn’t there anymore, and we brought out the worst in each other. I was a negative version of myself while I had her in my life.

My point is, don’t leave your relationships or friendships bitter. The anger will only hold you back for finding the perfect relationship for you. Let go of the toxicity, mourn the loss, and be fluid in finding better relationships.

“…If you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher, and if you are prepared – most of all – to face, and forgive, some very difficult realities about yourself…then truth will not be withheld from you.”

Elizabeth Gilbert

If you’ve ever had a toxic relationship (friendship, etc), feel free to share,

Today, I want to share a few of my gym must-haves!

  • Lululemon capris: for me, nothing compares to their flexibility! My favourite are the Wunder Unders. They are pricey, but they last forever…and flatter like no other. (Find LuluLemon here)
  • Live Fit shirts: I used to stock up on Lululemon shirts, but I love that Live Fit Apparel isn’t as tight. I like to be comfortable at the gym, sans cleavage. (Find LiveFit Apparel here)
  • Nike ball cap (find Nike here)
  • Underarmour runners: I wouldn’t suggest them for running, but they are awesome for weight lifting (find UA here)

  • Jaybird earphones: they connect through Bluetooth, so you can enjoy your entire workout with your phone away from your body (Find Jaybird here)
  • ReGen BCAA: BCAA’s help with endurance and muscle recovery. Majority of trainers will suggest adding these into your routine. They taste great too! I also highly recommend the brand MANN – I just don’t have them on hand! (Find ReGen here)

What are some of your gym necessities?!

My mother and I used to cuddle up and have “mommy-daughter movie nights” – even when I was too old for us to fit comfortably on the same couch.

The very last movie we watched together was We Bought A Zoo. I don’t remember much of the movie because I was concentrated on holding her hand, as I knew it would be our last movie together.

However, there’s this incredible quote from the movie, and I would like to share it with you.

Sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.
