STILA AQUA GLOW FOUNDATION

Hi everyone!

I recently picked up Stila Aqua Glow Serum Foundation to try out. I purchased it online at Sephora. However, for those of you who didn’t know (I didn’t know this before my purchase), Sephora is cutting ties with Stila and it will soon be dropped from their website. For Canadian girls, Stila will still be available at Shoppers. For American girls, find it at Ulta!

This foundation claims to be luminous, lightweight and buildable!

The product blended nicely, and I would say it gave me a light to medium coverage. It doesn’t look cakey, but with some primers, it’ll ball up. The finish is definitely luminous, but after about six hours, it begins to look oily on my dry skin. In my opinion, I preferred a beauty blender with this foundation, however, due to it’s thin nature, the sponge does soak up a lot of product.

Overall, this foundation is nice…however, it isn’t a holy grail. Here are some of my pro’s and con’s:

PRO’S:

  • Beautiful packaging with a convenient dropper
  • Natural
  • Luminious and glowy
  • Blends well

CON’S:

  • Does get oily
  • Likely won’t work for oily skin types
  • Temperamental with some primers and balls up
  • Doesn’t cover all of my redness

Have you tried this foundation? Or do you have any suggestions for a girl that loves a glowy look?

DISCLAIMER: After trying this out, it was brought to my attention that Stila tests on animals. For me, that is enough to not repurchase. Unfortunately, this will be my last purchase with Stila. I still wanted to post about this product incase anyone is interested!

REPLICA | BEACH WALK

I finally bit the bullet and spend the $120 (CAD) on a new bottle of perfume. If you’ve been around my blog for awhile, you know I am obsessed with fragrances.

I’ve had my eye on Replica Beach Walk by Maison Martin Margiela for months . The line itself is absolutely incredible. The idea behind Replica is to replicate a moment and transport you there through scent.

Beach Walk does just that. It honestly smells like salty skin, the summer sun and lapping waves. How they did it? I have no idea, but I’m glad it’s finally propped up on my shelf with my other fragrances.

BeachWalk

Notes: Bergamont, Pink Pepper, Lemon, Ylang ylang, Coconut Milk, Heliotrope, Musk, Cedarwood, Benzoin.

Another shout out to Jazz Club! It’s another incredible scent from the line and I’m dying to pick up for my boyfriend. I’m serious, the entire line is incredible…you have to check it out!

I purchased my perfume from Sephora.

If you have any perfume suggestions or recommendations, please let me know! Or if you’ve tried anything from the Replica line, please tell me what your thoughts were,

FEBRUARY | FAVOURITES

February has been an interesting month with the temperamental weather and my intense Spring fever! Some of my makeup choices have been more summer-appropriate, since I’m lusting for warm beach days. So lets get into my favourites!

  • Doll 10 Products: I first received these products in a beauty box and hastily disapproved of them because apparently I didn’t like cream products. I have them a try and I LOVE them! The cream blush is so natural, dewey and just makes the skin look beautiful. The highlighter gives an incredible natural glow. When used together, it just means the best skin day!
  • Mac Melba Blush: I neglect this blush in winter. However, come spring and summer, it’s a must have! It gives the cheeks a nice peachy, pink glow. Bonus: Ingrid Nilsen loves it too…so it must be good!

Melba

  • Boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel: I honestly notice a huge difference after using this peel. It’s extremely gentle, smells great and my skin feels so soft, and my dry patches disappeared.

Boscia

  • Makeup Forever Step 1 Primer: These primers are all incredible. I love the Becca Backlight Primer on my cheeks and perimeter of my face, and I put the smoothing primer on my T-Zone. It’s similar to Porefessional, but I prefer the MUFE!

MUFE

  • LUSH Dream Cream: just all around a gorgeous cream. It has more of a gel-type feeling, and soaks into the skin right away.

DreamCream

  • Batiste Dry Shampoo: I love all of Batiste dry shampoos! They are inexpensive and soak up all the oil quickly. This new scent is incredible though! It smells more like a light perfume instead of a dry shampoo.
    • Batiste Ella Henderson Sweet and Seduction – bought from Shoppers $8.99

Batiste

  • Essie Grow Stronger Base Coat: this product leaves a very transparent, pink colour to the nails, so even when I don’t want to paint them, they still look put together! I had gel nails for years, and now have embraced my natural nails and this product has been a life saver for my recovering nails.

Essie

  • Neutrogena HydroBoost Water Gel Moisturizer: the picture shown is the Extra Dry version that I accidentally bought, but I prefer the regular formula. This moisturizer is incredible! I can’t believe more people don’t talk about it. It’s light, smells great, and hydrates (it has hyaluronic acid!)

Neutrogena

What have you been loving this month?! I’m always on the search for new products. Happy March!! Spring is on it’s way!

HAUNTING | MOMENTS

“I am not looking to escape my darkness, I am learning to love myself there.”

Rune Lazuli

For me, today is a dark day. Despite the fact that my blog is generally surrounded around beauty, I would like to discuss the darkness that is March 3rd. Today is my brother’s death anniversary.

I stayed tight-lipped about my brother’s death for too long. What makes people more uncomfortable than depression and suicide? God forbid I was the source of anyone’s discomfort.

It wasn’t until I was curled up naked on the bathroom floor sobbing “I can’t do this anymore” when I understood the importance of speaking about the disease that took my brothers life. I suffer from the same disease – I was diagnosed with depression shortly after my mother passed away, and I have battled it ever since. For me, depression comes in waves. It debilitates me, and then subsides into remission…only to bring me to my knees again. I fight depression with all my might. I don’t want to be sick anymore. I fear, like my brother, depression will take me too.

Because of these reasons, I will speak words of love and light in my brother’s name in hopes that the stigma of depression will subside, and there will be less victims fallen to suicide.

So, here, we discuss March 3rd, which is the most haunting of days for me – the sounds of my mother banging on the kitchen counter at 4 AM and the enclosing ambulance sirens.

Today, I will remember my brother in all his glory. He was intelligent, handsome, athletic, kind and funny. He was 18.

So, I ask you – in fact, I beg you – to speak words of kindness and love. Speak up against depression. Speak your own stories or stories of others. Just speak. Just love. And if you’re suffering too, just breathe.

As for me, I will continue to fight and I will continue to pull myself off the bathroom floor. At the end of my dark tunnel, I believe my struggle will only make me a stronger advocate for mental health.
