SELF-LOVE & Depression

I am not looking to escape my darkness, I am learning to love myself there.

-Rune Lazuli

Hi everyone!! This post may stray from my lighthearted makeup posts, but I have some things I want to share with you.

As some of you may know, I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression in December. It was a dark couple of months. I had quit my job to focus on my mental health, found myself contemplating ending my life on the bathroom floor numerous times, and began hating myself for inflicting such emotional agony onto myself. These thoughts of self-hatred, anger, and pity spiralled me deeper into my depression. There was a point where I believed no amount of beauty could outweigh the tremendous pain in the world.

In an attempt to heal myself, I began expressing love and attempting to radiate kindness. I began volunteering, smiling at strangers, and taking the time to wish acquaintances happy birthday. I loved my friends unconditionally through their bad days. I lended them a hand to hold without judgement.

It was then that I relized that the only way out of my depression was to love myself through it as well. My depression was not a result of my brain trying to hurt me. My depression was my brain’s way of coping with the losses I had experienced. Depression is the way your brain copes, grieves, and, most importantly, transforms.

I didn’t have to “battle” my depression – nobody should ever have to battle themselves. I  had to accept that my brain was coping and I had to love myself through it. I had to be kind to myself, be gentle with my heart. Instead of hating myself for falling on the bathroom floor crying, I let myself sob, I cradled myself through it, and I congratulated myself when I stood back up. It was when I began to love myself, depression and all, that my depression began to subside.

My advice to you is to just love yourself through the bad days. There is nothing wrong with you just because you hurt. You are strong and you are capable and you are beautiful and YOU DESERVE YOUR OWN LOVE. For the people who struggle with depression, I had a girlfriend tell me, “The opposite must be equal”. We can feel so much hurt, but we can feel the equal intensity of love, happiness, and light.

…And then there was a moment on Tuesday where I heard the ducks quacking and saw the budding green on the trees and I thought: “moments like this outweigh the pain”.

Thanks for taking the time to read and I wish you all the beautiful light and healing xx,

MISS DIOR | BLOOMING BOUQUET

Hey everyone! So the perfume hoarder (AKA me) was back at it again.

I recently picked up Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet. The 3.4oz bottle is for sale at Sephora for $124.00.

This scent is unlike any others in my collection. I typically gravitate towards sweet scents. Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet is the epitome of a girl in summertime. It’s light, floral, bubbly, and elegant. The staying power isn’t the best I’ve had but it’s worth it for me. It’s subtle and so sophisticated.

I was convinced I needed a new summer scent, and this is the one I chose. At first, I purchased Juicy Couture Rosé but on my skin it smelt like a cheap rose-scented soap. So, I returned it, and went with the Blooming Bouquet.

I feel like I’m turning over a new leaf and beginning to purchase more grown-up scents. Between this purchase and my Replica Beach Walk, I should be ready for summer. I posted my previous five favourite fragrances here.

I never thought I would say this, but I think my perfume collection finally has everything I need. Even though I have my eye on Coco Mademoiselle and Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb.

What are your favourite scents? I’m always looking to try out more.

Let’s cross over and be instagram friends! 🙂 Have a wonderful week full of light and love…and May 1st.

INTRODUCING | WYNN

Hi everyone!

This post has been in the works for about a month, but I wanted to postpone the announcement until I knew everything was going all right. As I’m sure a handful of you know, I am a proud owner of two sweet little pups. A Chihuahua cross and an Australian Shepherd cross.

About a month ago, we (kind of impulsively) decided to add a third edition – a sweet little American Staffordshire Terrier. Being that we have two small dogs, I was a little on edge – but we hit the jackpot with her.

So here’s Wynn, the biggest puppy you’ll ever meet. Favourite activities: sleeping, cuddling and kissing.

Thanks for reading and hope you’re having a wonderful weekend xx,

MARCH | FAVOURITES

Happy April, you beautiful souls!

I wanted to do a roundup of a few of my favourite beauty products for the month of March, as well as a few lifestyle favourites…and a new addition to the family. I also included one of my new favourite perfumes. So…let’s get to the favourites!

  • Benefit Hoola bronzer

Finally we are seeing a little bit of sun here in Canada! So I’ve really been loving bronzed skin lately…and this product does just the trick! Not too ashy or warm, just a perfect neutral shade, perfect for bronzing or contour.

March6

Such a boring item for me to mention, but I’ve been loving it lately! With Spring finally arrived, I love a glowy complexion, and Mac Fix+ takes any trace of a powdery finish off of my skin.

March3

This is my perfect pink-nude. I’ve heard BeautyCrush (SamanthaMaria) talk about this shade before, and it truly is perfect. The formula is creamy and comfortable.

March8

I got a sample from my Ipsy bag. It’s beautiful. I never thought I’d say it, but I’m finding my Becca highlighters a little too much, so this has been a great replacement. I’m waiting to buy the full size.

March9

These little lip balm tins from Lush are INCREDIBLE. I ran out of my last one, and had to go pick up a replacement immediately. My EOS, Burts Bees and Soft Lips can’t compare now. (Not to mention, cruelty free and natural is such a good marketing strategy). This product actually soothes my lips, and doesn’t force me to reapply every 20 minutes.

March5

  • ColourPop highlighter in Wisp

This is a beautiful shade. I’m especially looking forward to wearing it in the summer, as it’s a little dark (but it still looks nice on my fair skin). It’s described as a golden champagne colour on the ColourPop website.

March7

I picked this up in March, and wrote a blogpost a couple days after that (blog post here). I have just fallen more in love with it – it is a perfect summer scent.

March4

Lifestyle Favourites

  • Topknots – the little twist kind because my hair is finally long enough, and it’s scruffy-chic.
  • Boyfriend Jeans – once again, a little scruffy-chic…and oh-so-comfortable.My favourite are from Express.
  • Our new family member – WYNN!!! She’s a sweet little ten week old puppy. She’s been a handful, but worth every minute. I’ll be posting an introduction post later this week for you guys.
  • Calligraphy – it’s my new hobby. I’ve been practicing every night.
  • SELF LOVE – my recent struggle with depression has given me a whole new appreciate for self love. I’ll follow this up with a post as well.

So please, stay tuned!

Let me know what your favourites for March were…and if you have any Spring/Summer fragrances that you suggest!

Thanks for reading xx,
